40's sewing apron

    40's sewing apron
    on: May 16, 2009, 09:46:49 AM
I put this apron together for all of my tools that I am losing on my cut table as I sew.  It's been pretty handy so far.  This is one of those projects that I've been meaning to make for a long time and just haven't gotten to it.  I looked at a lot of different sewing aprons and combined some thoughts into this apron.  Somewhere I saw angled pockets which is indeed nice so that you poke yourself with sharp implements...less.

The main fabric is vintage kitchen fabric from the 40's.  It came in 36" width, which while a bit odd made it the perfect size for a small apron.  The pockets are from kona cotton and some red plaid sateen I picked up at a thrift store.  I trimmed it out in blue ric rac because it just seemed appropriate.

The fabrics are great. Where did you find your vintage fabric?

I bought it at WhizBang Fabrics in San Francisco which is sadly now out of business.  I should have bought more fabric.  Ahh, live and learn.

I Love this apron.  I just purchased some cute fabrics at Paducah and they would be great for this apron.  I think I am going to have to try to copy it.  I have made some with just one row of pockets, but not two.  I can't wait to get started.

Adorable! I've been looking at patterns to hold things, like pockets that hang over the sewing table but this might be even better!
