skirt pieces cut on the bias

skirt pieces cut on the bias

So, I have a great little skirt that I noticed is pieced together bias strips about 8 inches long each.  Is it reasonable to attempt this?  Has anyone?  I have a lovely piece of Echino that I want to make into a skirt and I have just enough of it for no mistakes!  What does bias do for a skirt?  Is it really important to how this particular skirt fits and wears?  It is a favorite of mine...

Skirts or dresses cut on the bias, or sewn of bias strips, will fall to the curves of your body better.  They will stretch a bit (that is what fabric does on the bias) and form to your body without all the creases and pleating that a skirt would do if cut on the grain.  If you want to make a skirt like this with the fabric you have and are concerned you have only JUST enough.  Try finding a cute coordinating fabric, or one that can be used for accents and adding in a few strips here and there.  That will stretch the fabric you already have just enough to give you some wiggle room, and will probably add a cute accent as well.  Make sure to post a picture here if you make it!  We would love to see!

I agree that skirts cut or sewn of bias strips make a difference in the way it falls so if you love the fit and wear of that skirt then you'll have to sew your skirt in the same fashion.
