Does anyone sew on a Husqvarna Viking or Pfaff and love it? And do you do machine embroidery?

I've had a HV Sapphire 850 since Christmas, and I love it.  Smiley  It has some fancy stitches but no embroidery... those machines were way out of my budget.  If I can answer any questions about my machine, let me know.

A few months ago I purchased a Husq.Viking Sapphire 870.  I love it!  My only complaint is that Coats and Clark thread sometimes jumps off the tension hook and creates nests if I don't notice in time.  I don't have this problem with Gutermann thread.

I couldn't afford an embroidering machine and since I'm a quilter I got the quilting model.  Two of my favorite functions are the automatic presser-foot (lifts and lowers when you stop and start sewing) and the "cut" button.  I have used many of the fancy stitches in my quilting and love experimenting with variegated thread for it.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at frecklemama (at) yahoo (dot) com.  Good luck!

I LOVE my Pfaff. That built in walking foot just cannot be beat.

I would really recommend you going to the dealers and giving the machines a test drive. It's a lot like buying a car (:

I have to second the test drive. I looked at way too many when I was shopping, but eventually figured out which features were important to me.

I have an ancient Pfaff Tiptronic and it is a very good machine. I sew a lot and it has never let me down, although I have one complaint. The machine has problems with sewing a clean seam through many layers of fabric (like fitted cloth nappies etc). It often misses stitches in this case or blocks totally. I mostly sew bags with many layers, that’s why I'm considering buying a new machine. But if I find a Pfaff with more power I'll stay loyal to this brand.

My mother has also used Pfaff machines for decades. With her current one she does some embroidery. As far as I know she likes her machine very much.

In the tailors shop I used to work we had different Pfaff machines (industrial strength and household machines as well) and all of them where very good. We also had a Yuki and it fell short of the Pfaff machines.

I have never used a Husquvarna sewing machine so I can not compare it with Pfaff... I'll definitely try out a lot of machines before I buy one, after all I plan to use it every day for the next 15 years or more...
Another important consideration is whether you have someone competent nearby that can repair or do maintenance on the brand you have. I guess that's another reason everyone hereabouts sews on Pfaff because we have an excellent mechanic in the district.

I have a Viking Designer I and LOVE it. It's my first embroidery machine and I've been very happy with it. I'd love to be able to afford to move up to the next machine but can't and really, this one is still going strong so I see no hurry other than the want for the next model up. I haven't had any problems with mine since I first got it. I did have some tension problems in the very beginning but they were fixed after two trips at no cost to me and since then it's not had any problems.

My mom has had her Pfaff for years and years- maybe 30?  My 3 sister's and I all learned to sew on it.  Mom has taken it in 3 times for servicing and it's still going strong today.  Every time she takes it in, the dealer always tries to get her to trade it in, but she refuses.  Although my mom's was not an embroidery machine, I still think Pfaff is the way to go.

I have a Pfaff Creative Vision and I love, love, love it.  I had a Bernina Artista 200 and traded that in last fall for the Pfaff.  I use the Pfaff a lot more than I used my Bernina and I was dragging my feet about getting the Pfaff.  Anyway, it's a high end machine w/ lots of bells and whistles.  I use the embroidery unit but not as much as I do just regular sewing.  Definitely go to as many local dealers as you can and take them all for a test drive.
                      Good luck!

I have two Pfaff - a venerable 7570 and a creative Vision and love them both.  The embroidery on the CV finally has the technology that makes it a no branier if yoiu want to design your own stuff.

Pfaff and Viking are owned by VSM and now share some engineering.  The Viking Diamond has the embroidery SW that was put into the Creative Vision.  If you buy the computer SW (4d suite) its the same format for both machines and reads/writes PCS (older Pfaff), JEF (janome), XXX (singer) , PES ( brother, babylock, bernina)

I love my Husqvarna Viking Topaz 30! The sewing is great (so many nice features) and the embroidery is fantastic! So easy compared to years ago with the Rose and the Lily.

I have loved Pfaff machines for over 20 years now.  I think the Vikings are nice machines, but the Pfaff is the only one with that wonderful built in IDT.  I tested a Bernina over 20 years ago before buying the Pfaff because there was just no comparison on the "test drive" and did the same with trying other machines (Bernina and Janome) 3 years ago when I decided to buy a new one.  My daughter still uses the old Pfaff and they both get plenty of use, never had a problem with the.  I didn't get an embroidery machine either time though.  I do like to do embroidery with all the decorative stitches.  So even though I love Pfaffs and can testify to their greatness I think you really need to try them all out.
