Which needle for sewing on paper?

Which needle for sewing on paper?
    on: May 21, 2009, 08:26:39 AM
We will be constructing a mobile and some of the components are post cards. I'm wondering which needle would be best?

If I had some extras I would test a few needles - but my first thought was to try a top stitch needle....

    Thoughts?

I've used my regular needle before, but changed it afterward, assuming that I had dulled it.

But if there is a special one to use, I'd love to know too!

      Thanks!

I too have just used what was in my machine- usually a 70 or 80 and changed it after the project.

My experience sewing paper is that standard needles (80/12 Universal) leave rather large holes with each stitch, so I'd recommend using Microtex/Sharp.

I practiced on some lightweight cardboard (since I didn't have any extra post cards).

The microtex was definitely the winner - thank you!!!

I've used whatever is in my machine for paper AND plastic. You could also use a wingtip needle for fancy stitching.
