Loose stitches

    Loose stitches
    on: May 22, 2009, 08:03:11 AM
I have an older singer machine that has done fantastic over the years.  Recently, though, when I set the machine to do a 'special' stitch (like zig zag), the stitches are too loose.  I still have the original owners manual and the settings used are those indicated in the book for that specific stitch.  *sighs*

Anyone else have this problem with an older machine and if so, how did you fix it?  Really cannot afford to buy another at this time.

    thanks!

I would start with the usual trouble areas: re-thread everything including your bobbin, change your needle and make sure your feed dogs are fully engaged.  Try sewing something other than your current project and see if there's still a problem.  Sometimes, it could just be the combination of needle size and fabric weave which causes the issues.  If you are still having issues after trying all of these steps, it just may be time to take your machine in for servicing.  Good luck!
