fusible fleece question

    fusible fleece question
    on: July 19, 2008, 01:32:17 PM
Hi, I am new to the board after reading for a few months.  New to sewing also.

I have been making a bunch of really floppy purses lately (just taught myself to sew a few months ago also) and realize I probably need to use fusible fleece.  Interfacing isn't enough.  I don't like  really stiff hard purses since I am mainly doing totes.

Now my problem is the nearest "real" fabric store with anything substantial is about 30 miles away and is always out of fusible fleece.  They sell out as soon as they get it.  Go figure.

So I have never even seen it and need to order it online.

I have seen some bad reviews on the Joann website for fusible fleece.  Can anyone recommend a good brand for me.  I would rather just order a bunch instead of messing around.

(OR if anyone has any other suggestions to keep my purses from being so floppy, that would be great too.  I am using denim on the outside and cotton on the lining.  I am using decor-bond either on the lining or to line the outer fabric, or both.)

Thanks!  I love your site and one day hope to have a photo worthy of posting!

    Susan

Amy Butler wrote an interfacing guide for us awhile back and recommended Stacy's Stabilizer 101 layered with Thermolam Fleece--both Pellon products.  I've been using both since and love the weight and sturdiness of the combination. We don't carry any interfacing, but Jo-Ann online, or Nancy's Notions might have them.

I have used the fusible fleece from Joann to make totes. I've had one bag for over two years and its been to Europe and back, plus toted all over town. It has held up really well for me.
