Wright's Bias Tape Maker at JoAnn

Wright's Bias Tape Maker at JoAnn
    on: June 06, 2009, 01:59:37 PM
So I was at JoAnn buying some felt (on sale thru today!) and saw on the counter a Wright's Bias Tape Maker- it looked like it had the bias tape maker thingy built in with an iron and spool and everything- no more steamed fingers!  BUT I can't find it anywhere online to see how it reviews- and I've never seen it before.  I would have just bought it, but at 100$, that's something that gets purchased with a coupon!  Anyone seen this, anyone? Help!

I saw it on either the Mc Call's pattern site or Simplicity patterns site. I thought how cool is this!!

ah-ha!  That was it-thank you (3 year son was ready to GO NOW, so no time to keep looking at it in store) but I can't really find anyone's opinion of it yet- anyone out there use it yet?  To be honest, I hate using the regular tape maker and iron- juggling multiple objects is not my forte, and steamed fingers aren't fun.  If you have one of the awesome JoAnn's coupons for 40 or 50 percent off, this isn't such a bad deal, if you think about just buying the bias tape cost.  Question is- how well does it work?  Anyone?

I don't have this, but I know I recently read on one of my many favorite sewing blogs, of a gal who saw it in action at a quilt show and was really impressed.  She hadn't bought it yet but was planning on it.  other than that I haven't heard anything about it either.

I requested information on the bias tape maker from Simplicity.  They couldn't provide a link for the info so I copied what they provided
                •           Bias Tape Maker will fold and press flat bias strips into single fold bias tape in the push of a button
                •           No more burning fingers pulling fabric through manual tips
                •           Machine comes with tip to make 1” single fold bias tape
                •           Great for sewers – match bias to fabric of a garment; finish the edges of garments for a professional look
                •           Great for crafters – add bias edges to fun craft and home décor projects
                •           Iron settings similar to a regular iron.
                •           Automatically shuts off after 10 minutes of non-use.
                •           Box doubles as a carrying case with a handle on the lid
                •           Portable and lightweight enough to carry to classes
                •           Tips are easy to change – just snap them into place
                •           Additional tips available September 2009.
                3/8” Single fold tip
                1/2” Single fold tip
                3/4" Single fold tip
                •           Not intended for professional use
Finished size- 1" single fold bias tape
                Yes strips can be pieced
12' cut strip can be wound/fit on spool.

That sounds so wonderful. Sometimes Joann's has 50% off & that would be so nice to get it for that. I usually always have a 40% off though.

AWESOME. Get one in every size. They are a little tricky at first, so don't give up.

I saw several of these on ebay for buy it now at $75 free shipping.  Might be an option if Joann's decides to put one of their classic "fine print" restrictions on their coupons.  You know like "coupon not valid on sewing machines, specialty equipment, anything cool or expensive at all so we're essentially forcing you to purchase it full price anyway"  Hmmm....does that come off sounding a little bitter?  Smiley

My new favorite is that my local Joann's store will no longer take my coupon discount INSTEAD of whatever dinky little discount they may be running on it.  Like if something was on sale for 10% off, they used to let me substitute my 40% off the regular price, and ignore the 10% completely.  No more!  Very frustrating, because it seems like everything in the store is discounted just a little, so as to make the 40-50% coupons useless.  I'll step down from my soapbox now Smiley

They don't appear to b selling it on their website th0ugh.  They recently closed two stores near me, so its quite a trek to see if they have it in stock.   Embarrassed

There are three bias feet available for my machine. I am wondering if  one of them might be worth trying. I love the look of bias tape made from a coordinating fabric. Has anyone tried one on their sewing machine?

I Agree!!!!Though I kind of do see the point 50% off a nice serger (mmmhmmm serger) would be a pretty hefty discount...so from a business perspective I get it...from I want that serger perspective I pout!
I did see this bias tape thing and its pretty nifty!

i bought this machine from someone on ebay. it's awesome. i've been using it for a month now, and i'm in love. it's really easy, and is much more precise than my handy clover bias tape maker.  I recommend it, though i'm not sure how long it will last.  i heard that Wright is putting out different size attachments, but i haven't seen them.  it comes with 1".
