Baby quilt question..

I'm about to start my first baby quilt for a friend. Just wondering, is 3'x3' an okay size? I want to do pinwheels, with no sashing in between.

I'm thinking 3" squares, 8 across by 8 down. Then a 6" border or white all around to make 36"x36".

Do you all think that size would be okay for a baby quilt?

I think the width will be fine, but the length will run a little short.  Most crib mattresses are around 52" and the width is about 28".  Could you add a couple more rows? 

I could easily add a couple more rows. But I don't think she'll actually be using it as a crib quilt. She has her "decor" all planned out. So this will more than likely just be used as a general around-the-house quilt. But maybe I should add the other rows anyway.. Thanks Irene

Oh, well if it doesn't have to fit on a crib then I think the 36 x 36 size will do fine.  I tend to like the smaller, square blankets because they are so much more versatile then the bigger, bulkier ones.  Just my opinion though.

The smaller ones are perfect for little ones to carry around & good for the stroller too.

Ok, good. I'm inexperienced when it comes to using baby quilts I've got my triangles cut for a 3'x3' blanket, but I can always add on if I just HAVE to. But I don't think that will happen. This is actually for one of my husband's good friends. Once the quilt leaves my hands, I'll never see it again, lol

I think 3x3 will be fine!  It will be a great size for the baby's play time!

I got the quilt top stitched up today and I think the size will be good. That many pinwheels scared me (I'm not good at matching up points, lol) but I think it came out pretty good. Hopefully I can get it quilted by this weekend.

wow! you did a great job!  The points dont have to be perfect, the baby wont be complaining.  I love the colours you chose and the pinwheels look so bright and fresh.  Lucky baby!  Next step..... quilting.  good luck!

Too cute! I made a handful of stroller sized quilts a decade ago when my daughter needed them - she still has them and loves them.

Thanks! I know I said I would get it done this past weekend, but I ended up having to go out of town. So it's gotta be done this week!
