satin stitch

Just got a Janome 6600, lucky me!
want to applique 95 moose on my new quilt
Any ideas on the best zig zag stitch to use for the smoothest statin stitch  will be greatly appreciated.
I am new at this and need all the help I can get.

Congrats on the new machine! Did you get free owner's lessons with it? I will be taking advantage of mine starting next month - can't wait!

I agree with Need to Sew - if you can, take owner's classes. That machine will do much more than you can imagine. You also need to learn how to use the feet.
If you can't take lessons, post your question on the Janome website or just search their website using the term "satin stitch."

Have fun - if you've never done satin stitching, be patient and practice first. =)

I third the "take the class" suggestion.  I just took my 3rd owners class today and am really having a blast.  No way would I have known I could do everything we're doing in class!

But - I watched this video (series of videos) before I did my first applique, and it really helped me have confidence to do it.  I hope it helps you too.

I never would've thought to go backwards/forwards like she did.  I was really glad to find this video.  I should email her and tell her thanks!!

I would also add that I use heat'n bond light to fuse the applique down - then I stitch. My designs never pucker or move - plus, there are no pins! Just make sure it's the LITE - I accidentally bought the other kind and it gummed up my needle and broke my thread!

Yep I did my first applique with just pins -- it puckered a little but not too bad.  Then my sewing instructor (another reason why classes are important!) told me about heat-n-bond.  I'll use that next time.

Ooooh satin stitch, so lovely yet so frustrating. Practice and a class are the best recommendations I could make.
