Kenmore Basic Machine....different feet

    Kenmore Basic Machine....different feet
    on: June 18, 2009, 07:20:39 PM
I have a pretty basic Kenmore machine.  (It cost under $100)  It is at least ten years old, but until the past six months was only used to hem a couple pairs of pants and one quilt.

After the feet post, I am wondering if I should get other feet for my machine.  I make a few bags, toys, and I want to make another quilt.  (Actually I have plans of making lots of Christmas presents, too.)  Is Kenmore an "odd" brand where I can't get different feet?

    Thanks for your help!

Check Sears, they carry accessories for the Kenmore machines.

Or, try their repair number (888-MY-HOME, or maybe it's 800...) and see if you can order parts.

Funny - I just went into  a local store and almost picked up a blind hem foot.  They said that my machine (a Kenmore - maybe 10 years old) should take a low shank generic foot.  But - I didn't have it with me, so I am going to go back with a foot.  This shop said I could return it if it didn't fit, so that's definitely a plus about finding one in person.

No, Kenmore isn't an "odd" brand at all. In my opinion, if you're going to spend under $100 on a new machine these days, a Kenmore is your best bet.
As for feet, first see if you can find any feet that originally came with your machine.  Almost all new machines come with at least a couple other feet which can include zipper, buttonholer, and/ or applique feet.  One which is almost never included, but I suggest is a walking foot.  It will help with the even feed of fabrics when sewing bags and quilts.  You shouldn't have trouble finding the right foot size, but take one from your machine in with you to be sure you get the right one.

There are tons of low shank snap on feet that will fit your Kenmore. I know my local Husqvarna Viking dealer carries some - think the package is green and white inspire or inspira something. I got a walking foot and few others for my old machine that way.

I have two kenmores that are 30-40 years old, and I have purchased feet for them at a local sewing machine repair shop!!!  They were very helpful, and the machines still work great.
