Removing rust water spots

My iron stared spurting rusty water spots onto my first quilt top.  I cleaned my iron. How do I remove the waterspots?

I would love to know the secret to this as well!

One piece of advice I received was to clean (the inside) of my iron with vinegar.  About the fabric, try to dab on Oxyclean with a Q-tip and rinse off the same way.  If all else fails, try to dab on bleach.  I'll report back if anything works.  Any help would be appreciated!!

I use a product called super iron out. You have to mix it with water-its a powder & you could clean the spots but don't leave it on any longer than 5 minutes. I would only use it on the spots as it will change the color of certain ones.

I hope you tried cold water first.

There is a RIT product called rust remover that you use in the washing machine. I think I had to use it once when our water filter died. It worked fine on most fabrics but there was one linen dress that ended up looking bleached (uniformly).
