YES...YES...YES....FREEZER PAPER.....

    YES...YES...YES....FREEZER PAPER.....
    on: June 28, 2009, 09:26:48 PM
this is in regards to an earlier discussion on how to keep your clothing patterns in tact......i tried freezer paper, per some suggestions, for tracing my patterns and it worked like a charm. no turning back on this one!!   oh i was so excited and i really couldn't get the same reaction from my husband or my 20 mo old daughter!!!! lol...

i traced the pattern onto the freezer paper for the size that i needed. then ironed on the freezer paper to the fabric and cut away...no pins, no weights...made cutting easier and more accurate as well. i think i can even get a small rotary cutter for this purpose to make the cutting even mroe accurate.  Just thought i would share in my excitement!! now if i can just get my daughters new dress finished, i would be even more excited!!!  Smiley Grin

Yep, been using freezer paper for years.  Love it for the exact same reasons mentioned above.  Everyone should at least try it once.

I tried this recently, and it totally rocks.  I'm not the uh...most conscientious when it comes to cutting, and freezer paper helped tremendously.

Hi! I also use freezer paper but never have I ironed it on? How does it stick to the fabric? I have also used plastic sheeting i have found I can transfer markings from pattern easier if i can see through the plastic. I also like the fact that I can pin.

debbie...you know how the freezer paper has 2 sides...a shiny side and matte?   the shiny side can be thought of as sticky/adhesive and will stick when you iron it. and then when you are done, you can peel it right back up and use it over and over. i traced my pattern right on the freezer paper w/the original pattern underneath it. i had to place another white piece of paper underneath the original pattern so i could see the lines more clearly. really easy. and you can pin and do anything you want. give it a try.

I love using freezer paper!  If you look at the box (I think it is for the Reynolds brand of paper) it tells you how to use the freezer paper for quilting - as well as wrapping packages to mail at the post office.

you really wrap your packages in it? i never thought of that. freezer paper has so many possibilities huh!!!  i love how gigantic the box is for $5...seems like it will last for a long time!

i sent an email over to my aunt yesterday who is a long time quilter (and who taught me) and she has only used freezer paper for appliques. she makes some clothes for her grandchildren and she was excited to hear what i had done!

Sweet!  I love this idea.  I have only used it for quilting too.  I used it to make wonky squares.  You know make one large square from 4 smaller squares then cut a square out of freezer paper that is smaller than your large square.  Iron it on crooked and then cut around it for a wonky square.  I love it.  I will have to try it for this now too!  Thanks.

                              Works wonderful for doing circles.
Cut a fabric circle larger than the paper by seam allowance, iron on the paper, run a long gather stitch in the fabric at the paper edge but not in the paper, pull and it gathers to the size of the paper, you can then iron the fabric seam allowance over the paper, remove the paper and have a perfect circle to applique.
