How do you do a rolled hem?

How do you do a rolled hem?
    on: August 08, 2008, 01:15:53 PM
I've heard a lot of talk about doing a rolled hem.  I have a sewing machine and a serger.  However, my serger was bought used and does not have a manual.  From what i've gathered, it's done on a serger.  I have an old singer serger.  Can anyone get me started in the right direction?

    Thanks!

Okay, I just got my Singer Serger yesterday so I am NOT the best person to give advice. On the other hand I did just read the manual- twice to figure some stuff out.

On mine, to do a rolled hem: You take off the left needle and flip a switch to R that is near the footplate. On my friend's serger she has to actually change out the footplate. (isn't that what its called) You also have to adjust the tension depending on the type of fabric or string you are using.

I'm sure you have, but have you looked online for a printable manual?

My old singer serger has a separate plate for a rolled hem. I have to loosen the upper looper thread and tighten the lower. Oh, and remove the left needle, of course.

I would try to find a manual online.
