    Summer Skirt Sew-Along
    on: July 15, 2009, 01:01:34 PM
The other day I realized that summer is flying by, but I have yet to make myself a skirt this year.  I thought it would be a good idea to start a summer skirt sew-along.
And for our friends in the Southern Hemisphere, you can join in and make your summer skirt 6 months ahead of schedule!  Grin

If you'd like to join, leave a reply.
    • There's no set time limit, but since it is a summer skirt, you might want to try to get it done this summer.   Cheesy
    • You choose your pattern and fabric. And if you could share it with us, that would be great.
    • Lastly, if you come across any helpful tips or have advice to share, please feel free to share it with us. We're all in this together!

To kick-off the Summer Skirt Sew-Along, here are the details for my skirt:

My Pattern is Hip Skirts.  I will be sewing the pleated skirt and this is my first time at pleats.  Hopefully, it'll be as easy as it looks!
For my fabric, I choose two: one fabric will be for the outside pleats and another different print will be for the inside, "peak-a-boo" pleats.
I choose two from Amy Butler's awesome MidWest Modern 2 line: Trailing Cherry Sand for the outside pleats and Floating Buds Aqua for the inside pleats.

If you need some inspiration for your pattern or fabric, here are some great choices from the shop:
    For skirt patterns:
    Cute Skirts
    Barcelona Skirts
    The Athena & Calista Skirt
    Beignet Skirt
    Belle Skirts
    Sophisticate Skirt
    Best Bias Skirt

    Some great fabric choices:
    Alexander Henry Florals
    Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks
    Tanya Whelan's Darla
    Valori Wells' Del Hi

    Happy Sewing!

I want to join!  I have a pattern already that I was planning to make a skirt from, but I really like the Sophisticate Skirt.  I have charm packs that I need to use also.  I also have been thinking of making a wrap skirt.  So much to choose from.  I will decide and then get sewing.  So much fun!  Thanks Irene for getting it going.

I need a deadline Irene! I'll never get it done without one. Just give me a personal deadline. I have fabric and a pattern sitting on my cutting table for a month now!

Pleats aren't that hard. I made myself a peek-a-boo pleat skirt earlier this year with denim and Alexander Henry Starling fabric. Different from my regular dull wardrobe and fun!

Oh, fun! I have a copy of Sew What Skirts coming at me in the mail this week. I think it's time for a simple denim wrap skirt. I'll try to do this.

I'm jumping in too!  I've needed to add a new skirt to my wardrobe anyway.  Maybe this way I'll actually get it finished!

I'm in.  I just got some great fabrics at a yard sale that are perfect for a skirt.  I will probably be making something with tiers.  We'll see.

I'd love to join in, but do any of you know of some good patterns for larger skirts - plus size 28?

I want to make the Barcelona skirt before school starts in less than 3 weeks for us!  As a teacher, I go back to work on August 4th, and I would love to wear my new skirt for the first day of school.  This will be the first time I've tried to put in a zipper, but I've seen some tutorials with photos on line.  I think I can do it!  I bought some inexpensive quilting cotton to make this first one with because I'm not sure of my skills.  It is "Wiggle Waggle: Floral Breeze" by Legacy Studio.  It is a turquoise and sky blue small print.
