Hi, I am making reusable snack and sandwich bags and need to know where to find a lining fabric that is safe to touch food. Thanks

In Sewing Green by Betz White she has a project for a sandwich wrap and recommends PUL fabric. It's preferable to oilcloth or PVC because those can contain mercury. People primarily use PUL fabric for making diaper covers but will work just as well for food. Here's one website I found that sells them:

Here's Betz's tutorial for the sandwich wrap as well as another link to a site that sells the fabric:

      Good luck!

I was looking into sewing some reusable food-safe bags as well and found that people had issues with PUL (polyurethane laminate) as well.  I guess it really boils down to how deep you want to go with this issue.  If you don't use any plastics, even saran wrap or tupperware, then you might not want any coated fabrics. On the other hand, if some plastics are okay as long as you are watch your exposure, then pul would be a fine choice.
In the end, I decided to use all natural cottons and wash the bags after each use.  They work well for me and saves a ton in plastics.  Good luck with your final choice.   Huh

I never thought about all cotton and washing, like fabric diapers just for food. Interesting!

Thanks for posting this! I never thought of sewing reusable food bags.  I'm curious where you got the pattern for snack bags?  Or are you making it up?  I don't have too much use for the sandwich bags, but could definitely use some snack bags.

            Thanks!!
