My first freemotion quilt!

    My first freemotion quilt!
    on: July 30, 2009, 01:36:57 PM
Finished my first free motion quilt! It's actually my first big quilt, too...it was 60x75" before quilting!  It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be...

Here's a peek at the back and the label

Congratulations! It's beautiful! I love the colors. Did you practice a lot beforehand or just dive right in?

The fabrics are all from Timeless Treasure's Apple line.  SUCH a cute line.

I did most of my practicing on small things like pillows and scarves, and I had done a small baby blanket a few months ago, but all of these hid the back side of the quilting, which was far from perfect (apparently I didn't have my machine running fast enough).  This quilt was definitely a challenge because it was the first one where the back side of the quilting would show and it was significantly bigger than my other projects.

Good for you.  Your quilt looks great.  I have been afraid to try freemotion.  I don't want to mess up anything.  I just send my stuff on to my Aunt who has a quilting machine.  I have planned to try on some placemats, but haven't done it yet.
