Best option for sewing classes?
on: August 09, 2008, 12:53:25 AM
I'm a little embarrassed to be posting this question, but its a question I have, nonetheless...I am wondering where I can go to really "learn the art of sewing" -- translation: read and create things from patterns, be able to alter things in a "real" way (not just by eye-balling it and then being grateful for my seam ripper...), etc. I have a sewing machine and LOVE to create things on it, but I'm pretty much self-taught and would love to find a class or anything to help boost my confidence in having "sewing skills." Does anyone have a suggestion for where I could go to receive further training?

What country/state/town are you in? Many cities have places that offer sewing classes, such as sewing machine dealers, fabric stores, and so forth.

Your best option is your local quilting store. But, you can also go to some community college and places like Jo-Ann Crafts.

Try contacting a local middle/high school and ask to speak with hte home economics teacher. That person may offer classes or be a good resource for someone who does. Good Luck.

I have been taking sewing classes for FREE through the "continuing education" classes with the community college in my area. I have learned so much in 1 short year that I am going to start the "intermediate" class in Sept. I can't wait! Good luck!!

I too have been thinking about taking classes... but tutorials online are SO limitless and helpful that I'm yet to take the plunge!
