Finishing a Stacked Coin Quilt

    Finishing a Stacked Coin Quilt
    on: August 09, 2008, 01:08:21 AM
I've made my first quilt top and I need some advice on how to finish it. I've used the Stacked Coin patten for the top in the Last Minute Patchwork & Quilted Gift book by Joelle Hoverson. [great book!!]  I'm debating how to finish this quilt. I'm not positive about my quilting ability, and am worried I'll go wonky if I try to quilt a diamond pattern on the top. Not to mentioned my tragic bias skills. Do you think it could be done with satin stitich ties every 4 inches or so? This is for a baby.

You can see pictures at http://badskirt.blogspot.com/

Also would love color suggestions for the top thread. Am thinking bright yellow. Is there special quilting thread or can I use my all-purpose spools?

    Really appreciate the help!

Nice job on your quilt top!  Ties would be fine, particularly for a baby quilt, I think.  What fabric will you use for a backing?  If you choose to quilt, they say a strongly patterned backing fabric hides quilting imperfections, plus it would look good if you used one of your strip fabrics from the front.  I've only done one small quilting project, a table topper that I hand quilted.  Found that I loved the hand quilting better than the piecing.  You do need to use special hand quilting thread for that.  Good luck finishing your project.

I love your quilt! VERY hapy Shocked) I think tying it would be fine, just use perl cotton. I think tying adds charm to some quilts. I machine quilt most of mine but the quilt I've tyed are holding up perfectly....for years. Great job girly! Amie Shocked)
