    Hi,
I'm looking to make a children's art smock from a gents button down shirt. I know this should be easy but I can't get my head round the best way to do it. I'm sure there must be good tuts out there on this but can't find them. Do any of you know any?
    Help...please...
    Alison.

I'm not sure I understand. Do you have a picture or a description of what you are trying to make?

We always have just cut the sleeves off to an appropriate length and then buttoned the shirts up the back. But sounds like you are looking for a more finished project than that?

When I was teaching preschool one of the moms made us a whole set of these.  She cut the collars off, and sewed ribbing around the neck opening in a circle, to go over the child's head.  She then cut the sleeves at an appropriate length and then sewed ribbing around them too so that they fit snuggly over the children's wrists.  They were great - and because the neck ribbing held them together, you didn't necessarily have to do up the buttons at the back which was a life-saver when you were trying to get a group of chidlren ready to paint.  Hope that helps!
