Drapery Fabric?

I would like to make draperies for my daughter's bedroom.  This will be my first attempt at a home dec project.  I am going to keep them simple...just 2 tie back panels.  I have found some cotton fabrics that I really like.  They are not drapery weight.  Do they need to be?  These are being used purely as decorative, they aren't needed to block light.  I'm just wondering if the material will be too flimsy, but I can't find a heavier weight fabric that I think is appropriate for a child's bedroom. What are your thoughts??

Go for it. You can line the panels with a heavier fabric but it really doesn't matter. If you like the fabric, use it. 

I agree, if you like it- use it.  There are curtains out there that are the lightest of fabrics to the heaviest. 

If you buy a nice print, to help them last longer, if you back them with calico (or any other fabric that is cheap)  it will slow down fading from sunlight.  The simplest way is just to layer the 2 fabrics together and cut out and sew them as if they were one piece.  Barb
