Batting Weight Questions

    Batting Weight Questions
    on: August 28, 2009, 05:51:29 PM
I am a quilter and use Warm and White batting as a general rule.  However, this seems to result in a thinner/lighter quilt than I would like.  I'd like to feel a quilt's weight on me when I'm sleeping.  Does anyone have any recommendations for getting that slightly thicker, heavier result?  I don't want a puffy, poly finish, just a slightly thicker and heavier cotton quilt.  I love the puckery finish cotton batting gives.

Any suggestions?  Has anyone tried double-layering the warm and white or would that be too much?

    Thanks in advance!

I have doubled the Warm & White for a thicker quilt and loved it.  It does make a heavy quilt, but super warm. I proceeded with quilting as usual and did not have to adjust anything except made my binding a little wider.  (Although I did stop half way through the quilting to replace my needle and clean out the lint!)

You can also look for Quilters Dream batting. The cotton version comes in three differnt lofts, although I don't know how it compares to the loft of Warm & White. You can also try a Cotton/poly blend batting. Some are 80% cotton for the puckery look and same feel as cotton with the 20% poly providing a bit more loft.
