t-shirt -->underpants

    t-shirt -->underpants
    on: August 10, 2008, 11:13:58 AM
    I am wondering about making underwear from t-shirts for children.  I have seen an adult version http://www.supernaturale.com/articles.html?id=70 and I wonder if it would be as simple as downsizing or if there are any other considerations for children.  Also, what options would work for boys?

      I think it would work great for kids! What I would suggest is to find a pair of undies your child really likes (and fits very well) and copy the pattern using the t-shirt fabric.

      You can either deconstruct the undies (take apart all the seams) and trace the pieces onto the fabric (adding seam allowances--your choice of size), OR just lay the undies down and trace the pieces as best you can without taking it apart (that's what I usually do).

      As far as boys go, when they're little they don't really need the fly, unless they really like using it. My sister sent me some boy undies from Europe where she lives and they don't have a fly. They're really cute; they're kinda the shape of a speedo. You could make up your own pattern or copy a girl bikini style pair.

      Now I'm thinking I need to make some undies for my kids. . .! Good luck!

        I just bought this pattern: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=14134862  I LOVE it.  It's easy, very fast, and the undies are super cute and comfortable.  The seller was super fast emailing me the files, too.  I've been repurposing teeshirts to make undies for my daughter with it.
