     Huh

    Hello Everyone:

I am a beginner and just finished my first dress and am planning my next one.  I have a pattern that calls for broadcloth, sateen or lightweight linen but have some beautiful stretch poplin or taffetta instead.

    Please help

You can almost always use a different fabric than what the pattern calls for, but you have to be prepared for a different look than the picture on the pattern sleeve.  The dress will drape differently and pleats and/or gathers will also have a different shape.
Also, sizing may be a bit off as well.  You may want to do multiple fittings while you are sewing.
