recycled stuffing

Have any of you ever used dryer lint for stuffing soft toys and dolls? If so, how did it work out for you?

I was doing the laundry indoors this morning, due to all the rain we've been getting here in Newfoundland, and noticed a big fat pile of dryer lint in the waste basket. I wondered if it would be useful to use it for stuffing toys instead of throwing it in the garbage. I am extremely pro-recycling (my motto is recycle, reduce, reuse, and repurpose), so nothing useful is thrown out in my house.

I wonder if dryer lint would work. Comments, suggestions, and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Keep on sewin', mamas!

I have not used dryer lint for stuffing but I have heard some complain about it because its so fine. You will have fine dust coming out of your project forever. I think they said it did not keep its shape at all & went very flat quickly. But I have not used it first hand.
I too love to reuse & recycle alot.

That's true, it can be very dusty. I was also concerned about the high flammability of lint. But it comes from out clothes, so wouldn't that mean that our clothing is highly flammable as well? Maybe not, I haven't done much research into the lint factor yet. Haha. I wouldn't make kids' toys from it anyway, due to it being flammable, maybe some shelf toys.

Or better yet, I might just save it up for the emergency kit!  Cheesy

I thought about it too but then heard that it's too flammable. I saw a recipe somewhere (I can look if you are interested) for making play-dough with it, however !
For toys, such as balls, I use a mix of old plastic bags and stockings. It makes noise and babies love it !

Oh yes you're right, I've seen that recipe somewhere, too. It looked neat, I might try it and see if the boy likes it!

That's a great idea to put plastic bags in stuffy balls! Babies love noise of course. And excellent idea about putting stockings in it too, now I know what to do with all of my ripped ones. Thanks!   Cheesy
