Oliver + S Birthday Dress ?

    Oliver + S Birthday Dress ?
    on: October 01, 2009, 08:58:58 AM
I have been longing to make this pattern all summer and now it's fall and I'm still longing!  If you've made it, how do you think it would work made in a fine wale corduroy to wear as a jumper rather than a sleeveless dress?  I'm a bit concerned with what the pleats would do...  Opinions appreciated!

The pattern calls for light to medium weight fabrics such as cotton, poplin, silk or seersucker, but I think fine wale corduroy would work fine as well.  If you use the corduroy, I would definitely use a very light cotton as the lining to try and keep the pleats from getting too bulky. Also, I would go up one or two sizes to give enough room for layering since you wrote that you wanted it to be worn as a jumper.
      Good luck!

I have this dress a few times, and I would say that yes it would probably be hard to get the pleats to flow just right with the corduroy.  Liesel has a board on Olver and S too that you could ask on, and she would probably have a better idea.
