    Fall/Winter Girls Dress Pattern Suggestions??
    on: August 14, 2008, 11:32:25 AM
I've been making tons of summer dresses for my little girls (3 & 5 years old).  But summer doesn't last forever here in Chicago.  Any suggestions on fall/winter dresses for a size 3 or 6.  I haven't seen a ton out there in the Simplicity/McCall world - but perhaps because the catalogs are still too summery???

What about using some of your summer patterns with corduroy mixed with cotton? T-shirt or turtleneck under.

I live in Canada and we have a lot of snow in the winter that requires children to wear snow pants (also known as ski pants) which are a very thick bibbed overall in outdoor fabric.  My daughters always complain if their dresses/skirts are too long since they become uncomfortable in these things!  Due to this reason they tend to wear mini-skirts in cord, jean with long sleeved tops.

Hmmm. I've been looking for the same thing. I think i'm gonna go with my raglan t patterna nd just make 'em long sleeved and dress length and also a simple sleeveless w/ long sleeves underneath. I Got my raglan t pattern from youcanmakethis.com. If you find anything great definately post it! I'd love to know!

I'm loving the Farbenmix Anna wrap dress pattern-- sooo fast and easy and cute. I just made a couple for my daughters, one with corduroy and an owl print cotton and another with a pink denim and the same owl print. They will be great for layering this fall, and the girls love that they are reversible.

I just made Simplicity 2874 for my daughter out of corduroy. I made the sleeveless version, but the pattern includes a long-sleeved version as well.

I've posted a photo of it here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/quixoticpixels/2812155396/

I like McCall's 5510, which is actually a nightgown pattern. I've made it in various quilting and home dec cottons, but it would also work well in in pinwale corduroy or a 100-weight polarfleece.  For pictures and construction details, see http://sixlittlehands.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

If you want a really adorable winter dress pattern, Burda 9677 is really fantastic. I has long sleeves, an under skirt (so you get double thickness), and comes with a sweet little vest/jacket topper.

I love to use sleeveless dress patterns in winter fabrics and layer them over a long sleeve shirt. I love the look! There are some cute Simplicity patterns that work for this look. Simplicity Project Runway pattern #3546 is a cute winter dress for a young lady as well. Also, the new Portabello Pixie patterns Analise and Claire are great for this style and can be found around the 'net.

I just made my daughter some dresses using McCalls 5458.  I LOVE this pattern, though I live in Southern California... this dress is more than adequate for winter via layers with a long sleeve shirt and some thicker tights.
