I was thinking about buying the xr 9000 also, but was wondering about the font.  I was wanting something to put the kids names on school bags and maybe a few applique projects.  Do you like the font?

I'm considering buying this machine.  I notice these posts were made soon after purchasing.  Is the machine still working well for you?  Also, have you found any particular fabrics that it doesn't work well on? Your replies would be greatly appreciated.

I posted back in October 2009 when I got my machine.  I still really like it and it runs well.  I have had no problems with it except for the looping and when I changed the needle that stopped.  I have used mostly cottons with it and have done some thread painting with rayon thread and it has worked very nicely.  I do not forsee any problems with it.  It is a great machine.  I really like all the different stitches.  I am very glad that I got it.

The font is small.  It is 1/4" tall and not adjustable that I can find. It is just a block lettering.   It is neat and readable with the letters spaced nicely even though that sounds really small.  I don't think I would use it all that much so it really doesn't matter to me. If I wanted something bigger I would probably just hand embroider it on.   I like the machine for everything else and it was very affordable.  I looked it up on another web site and it was over $200.

I received this machine back in December as a Christmas present. It was purchased at Costco for $160 I believe  I really like it, its been working very well except my top thread and bobbin just recently started jamming! Also In the process of the jamming my needles have been breaking...I havent broken so many needles since I started sewing at the age of 14!
Ive adjusted the thread tension and tried to look for a bobbin tension, but I cant seem to locate one.

I lost the original purchase info, (and the box) so Im taking it back to Costco to see if I can exchange it for another machine of the same model. If not, see if they can give me my original purchase/warranty info so I can take it to the repair center.

I purchased this sewing machine just about 1 year ago.  I had an old Monster that was so heavy I threw my right shoulder out for 3 months trying to lift it from floor to work surface.  The light weight of this alone is a wonder to me.  This I can lift with 2 fingers. As for sewing, I am a doll dressmaker and can tell you the prehistoric machine I was using would chew up all the edges of the wee seams I tried to sew.  With the XR9000, I can feed the seams under the foot and it will pickup the fabric and sew like a charm. Also find that the electronic stitches are wonderful - no need for a serger to finish many edges as the XR9000 offers a great variety.  So far, I have had not a problem to speak of.  Bobbins works wonderfully, thread does not tangle.  My wee garments much easier to sew and I have used Singers, Brothers, White and at times, what ever I could get my hands on.  I have recommended this model to several friends.
