The usual method of prepping a wool fabric, even a blend is dry-cleaning, London Shrink (rolling the fabric in sheets while wet and allow to dry naturally) or steam pressing (to shrink it, requires a press, steam table or hand steamer). I steam mine.

But I do know some seamstresses who forego this with no ill effect. They wash in cold water and then hang dry. Some are so brave as to tumble dry if the fabric is predominantly synthetic with just a touch of wool. Be prepared for some possible shrinkage, especially while ironing. Press on the reverse side of the fabric to prevent shine. Use a press cloth if you must press on the right side.
