Ideas for using thin leather scraps - gifts for men/kids

So I have recently been gifted this huge stack of leather and suede scraps (samples from a furniture store).  They're gorgeous.  Thin and floppy.  Bought a leather needle and some black thread just meant for leather, but I'm at a loss for what to make.

Christmas gifts, of course, is the goal.  Thinking of my husband (an artist, gardener, and skier); my son (two years old - some sort of toy?); and my dad (well, he's just weird).

Any advice would be so greatly appreciated.  I have no leather tools (punches, etc.).  Would really like to just sew up some simple ... somethings.  I don't know what, though!

For a weird dad (got one myself!) would you be able to join lots of pieces together by butting the edges together with a zig zag or faggotting stitch (perhaps on a foundation calico or similar) and give yourself enough "patchwork fabric" to cover a foam block for a footstool?
Suede pieces might make some sort of stuffed animals, maybe two of each kind if you were enthusiastic enough!

Wow.  A footstool.  Now THERE's a project!  Phew.  This gets my wheels turning.

And the slippers ... Oh ya, I do have this big scrap of lamb's wool ...

        Thank you for the ideas!

This isn't a project for boys (well, not for most boys), but for others reading with extra leather scraps who might want a girly project, I made this headband with some leather scraps. The tutorial is here.
