To start I would take a look at our tutorials found here: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?cat=19

I would scan through to find something you'd like to try and then jump right in. Most of our tutorials are written for the beginner sewer so I think you should be able to follow along.

Another suggestion is to find a local independent fabric store nearby. Most offer some sort of beginning sewing class which would be a great place to meet people and get hands on help.
