Charm packs, layer cakes, jelly rolls - which and why?

I've been drooling over the Recess by American Jane line and I'd like to get my hands on some of it for quilting purposes.  I can't decide whether to buy a layer cake, charm pack, jelly rolls, or some fat quarters.

Part of my problem is that I'm fairly new to quilting so I don't really know the pros and cons of each cut. I guess it somewhat depends on what kind of quilt patterns you like to do, but is there anything else to consider? For example, do you find that you don't really use jelly rolls as much as you use layer cakes since they are so narrow?

Advice, insight, suggestions!  TIA.

I'm only a beginner with quilting too, and have made a couple of quilts using charm packs -

(sorry, I haven't figured out how to put the pictures into the reply  Huh)

I think you can buy patterns that are specifically designed for jelly rolls, charm packs etc.

I think it really all depends on what pattern you want to make.  That being said, my personal preference is the charm packs... those little 5" squares are very versatile.  I have put them together as is, you can make them into half square triangles, or you can make hour glass blocks with them.  They are lots of fun!
