binding a quilt by machine

    binding a quilt by machine
    on: December 08, 2009, 12:21:39 PM
I am finishing my first quilt, and I am wondering if someone can provide guidance on binding by machine.  I really don't have the desire or the patience to do it by hand, but every where I look, the suggestions are for finishing by hand.  Is machine binding a no-no?!  Thanks.

I actually just found a new tutorial on this (I couldn't find any either when I started my first quilt so I took a deep breath and hand finished the binding).

You can also check out Amy Karol's video tutorial on binding...it's the same idea, just on a smaller scale.

      Hope this helps!

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I have never bound a quilt by hand. I have always machine stitched it on.
        I follow this video pretty closely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wprg5vzkuGw&feature=related part 1 & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MRfADz_pyg part 2.

I have bound almost all of my quilts by hand- but when I got in a time crunch I found this link from debralynn elsewhere in the comments.  It's nice 'cause it's a pdf so it prints out easily for reference.

Hi Amy, I'd never finish a quilt if I didn't sew the binding on with my sewing machine! This is why God gave us sewing machines!  Wink There aren't any no-no's in quilting, or at least there shouldn't be. Congratulations on finishing your first quilt; hopefully this is the first of many.
