Tutu Tutorials?

    Tutu Tutorials?
    on: August 25, 2008, 12:28:09 PM
    Hello ladies!
Just wondering if anyone knows of any good online tutorials for a children's tutu?  My little girl is 2 1/2 and I have a ton of tulle just sitting here waiting for me to do something with it.  Thanks so much!

I found a really simple no sew one on and made it for a friends daughter's birthday. It was adorable! I love the look of two colors of tulle together! Heres a link

      Hve fun!
PS- I had yardage of tulle instead of the rolls and just cut it into strips, worked just fine!

Those no sew tutus are lots of fun.   Grin  I've had good luck finding the rolls of tulle in the A C Moore wedding aisle. They put 50% off coupons in our paper all the time, and also take Michaels coupons, so you can get the rolls for very cheap.

Thanks, sweetzinnias!  That plumtickled tutorial was perfect (and hilarious!).  I was able to crank one out in about an hour and can't wait to do more.  I really appreciate your help!

That's a great tutu tutorial!  I used it to make tutus for my friend's daughters a few weeks ago.  It's a delightfully quick and easy project with lovely results.

This is the tutorial I've used in the past but the procedure is basically the same as the other one posted here.  I've made 4 and here is my most recent work.

I have a related question to all you tutu makers out there:  do you find that your tutus are very wrinkly?  I put the tutu on the floor and when I pick it up a day later, the tulle is folded in all directions imaginable.  I spend a lot of time combing it out but it just doesn't look right.  Is there a trick to this?  I am not even sure if I am making any sense.

                  Thanks.

I just got my 2 year old's tutu dress finished and I found it easiest to do put together information I got from several websites.  craftster.org and burdastyle.com were both really helpful, plus I found a few videos on youtube.  I prefer the sewn tutus myself as they stand up to the wear and tear of my little princess.  The 54" rolls of tulle fold nicelly in half for a dress and in quarters to mae a skirt, then the tulle actually gathered really well using the gathering foot on my machine.  If you don't have a gathering foot or don't want to use it, lengthen the stitch length, run straight stitches, and hold the top thread and pull on the bottom to gather and redistribute as needed once you have the correct length.  I attached mine to a thick ribbon to be tied over a leotard or top, which went well  having already gathered the fabric to the length I wanted.  Hope this helps!
