hemming around corners

    hemming around corners

So, I'm lazy and instead of folding and ironing 5mm rolled (or flat) hems for say a napkin, I bought a fancy foot that supposedly can roll the hem and sew it down simultaneously.  My question is: what do you do when you get to the corner?  Do you stop and start again or is there a super fancy way of turning the corner?  ditto question for curves.  THANKS!

Once you get the hang of the rolled hem foot on a sewing machine, you won't know what you did without it.  It does take some manual dexterity.  You have to take a few stitches and pull those threads through the foot to guide the fabric through the tubular thingy.  Now grasp the fabric in your right hand and hold it on an angle, slightly raising your arm, feeding it through the foot as you sew.

As for corners, slow down when you get within an inch of the end.  Stop with the needle down and miter the corner, holding them down with your fingers.  Take a few stitches.  Stop with needle down again. Pivot the work.  Take a few more stitches and continue sewing the edge.

It sounds complicated but it will become easier the more you do.

Ambimom, You're fantastic at giving directions!  I can't wait to get home and try it.  Thank you so much! Kiss
