Looking for Dog harness/vest patterns

    Looking for Dog harness/vest patterns
    on: August 29, 2008, 03:36:33 PM
My MIL has a new poodle and wants a fabric harness/vest style thingy for her, as the regular harness is rubbing her raw.
Anyone know of any pattern/resources for these?  Any pointers on construction if you have made one???

    Thanks

I will keep my eyes on your post..I have a min pin and I do not know why al the harness sli[ away from her skinny legs. A good home made one probably would be so much better... Smiley

Did anyone ever find a pattern or suggestions for this?  I have thought about trying to just make tubes (like those that fit on seat belts to pad them) for a few spots on the harness... or using the soft harness I have for one of our little guys, to make a homemade pattern for the other one. In the meantime, I am putting the harness over a fleece cover (a coat) I purchased, so that there is padding underneath.

Thanks for sharing any ideas... or patterns!

          Hi,

I am new to here, and i was just looking around and i saw your post... i have the perfect solution for you... i think Smiley  check out http://www.cdwplus.com/kitsmenupage.html they sell kits to make your own fabric collars/harnesses.  I bought a set for my cat, for some cat collars, and they are really inexpensive, and the directions are GREAT! all you need is some scraps of fabric and some interfacing Smiley  super easy!

i hope this helps you out... they look really fun, and i hope the puppy will like them too Smiley

              Commercial Harness Pattern

I had to register to contribute to the post. I found a commercial pattern that is made by McCall. It's a Hillary Duff, but we won't hold that against it! If you find working from a pattern easier, perhaps you can give that a try. Here is the link: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5514.htm. I haven't made it, but it looks like the right idea. I hope this helps someone out! Thanks to everyone else for their links as well!

I have been using premade Osh Kosh baby overall bibs and human baby clothes.....
I started making these as the little strap harnesses were also cutting into my girl's chest and belly when we go for walks...so I decided to go this route.....cute, fashionable and safe to wear...
Here's a link to a shih Tzu forum I am in and I posted some images to some darling baby clothes I bought, that I am altering into harness dresses and vests..What's cute, is if you buy enough material, you can even make matching leashes..LOL

My post is the first one with the thumbnail images...  nic name on there is Apeke, like here....
These are so easy peasy to make and so customized for your fur baby.
If you have larger dogs, just go up to older children clothes, etc...

When you see the little thumbnail images, just click on them to enlarge them to view better...

For boy dogs, it's the same concept, except you just add a band of material at the bib hem, etc..., rather than make it look like a skirt/dress.

Hope this helps you for ideas too...

Hi.,..love the concept of altering clothes for my two little darlings, but when I go to the page you referenced I can't see the images.  I've tried joining and it says I'm a member, but I still can't see anthing or it tells me I have to join (sigh).  I've read the problems you're having so I know this won't be a priority, but if you have a chance I'd appreciate you reposting here if possible.  My prayers are with you for your little Emmi.
