True Love Contest

Here's one valentine I made for a sweet lady at church.  She helps us out so much.  I'm rather new to embroidery, so forgive my awkward birdy. :-)  After I got the envelope done, I wished I had put a stamp and address on the other side.  I was so busy paying attention to the opened side, that I forgot all about the front!

ooh I love all the valentines so far!!  Smiley

Here is mine for my friend Michelle, I embroidered her address on the front and I am sending it "naked" like this in the mail. Stamps and my return address label are sticky enough to stay on the fabric I chose and she can peel them off when it arrives Smiley The little google eye heart is actually a pin that you can take off of the padded heart card, too.(the pattern for them is on my blog)

I have been having a great time looking at all these entries…they all have so much personality. And now I am finally done with mine! I decided to make my entry for my 2 month old daughter. I figured it would be the perfect card for her first Valentines Day. Since I am taking part in the stash-busting forum at Craftster, I also made it a rule that I couldn’t buy one single thing for this. I went a bit picture crazy, but there’s so much to see, so here we go!

Here is the back of the envelope. I wanted kind of an vintage/aged look, so I took some simple muslin, cut it into strips and re-sewed it for my main fabric. I really like the unfinished edges.

Here is the front of the envelope. I’m really glad I finally found a use for the lace and bee bead. You can barely see it in the picture, but I hand-sewed on the lace with an iridescent thread.

The inside of the envelope and back of the card.

The other side of the card. The pink elephant ribbon has been in my stash for years, and I needed something really, really special to use it on. And who doesn’t love a little minky?

And the inside! Simple, but heartfelt.

After all the floundering, I am really glad I decided to enter this. Hopefully my little lady will treasure this for a good long time. Happy Valentines Day to you all!

Here's my entry for my daughter at college.  I used repurposed linen from pants, some new Westfalenstoffe fabric (she studied in Germany), and some Cavillini stamps for the outside.  Unfortunately I didn't have any red ink, and what I bought for this was an ugly pink.  Wish I would have just used black.  I was running out of time, so I used (for the first time!) my alphabet "embroidery" and heart border from my machine.  Gee, I've only had it three years, and have never used this feature.

I've made my envelopes and got a little sidetracked creating fabric stamps for them before making my actual Valentine cards to go inside! If you'd like to make some stamps too, I posted an easy a tutorial here: http://poppyprintcreates.blogspot.com/2010/02/sweetheart-fabric-stamps-tutorial.html

It's my first time embroidering so I had a lot of fun making this card. What a great idea! I made it for my boyfriend (just in time for valentine's day) so I kept it short and simple because that's how he likes it.
Everyone else's is so creative though.. maybe i'll try another one later hehe

so I've tried posting the pictures and its not working so here's the link

Not sure how to get pics on here.  Hopefully above link works (2 photos).  My daughters and I hand dyed fabric then added angelina fibers, scraps, thread, paper flowers etc.  We have already used them as gift card envelopes or for iPods and DSi players!  Love them!

This Valentine was made for my nephew's daughter, a little girl who is at the right age to work on buttoning skills.  The adorable circus fabric is from Sew Mama Sew, something that came in a collection of fat quarters which I purchased in '09.

It seemed to me that this Valentine would make a perfect travel toy for the car or something for quiet play in a restaurant before dinner is served.

The tutorial was easy to follow. I see using the general concept for birthdays or other special greetings.

Thank you yet again, Sew Mama Sew!

I made this Valentine for my husband.  I started the project by searching on Google for Valentine's sayings.  I found this one and was inspired to embellish with 100 hearts:  97 back stitched, 2 in buttons and one in chain stitching.  It was only after the fact that I noticed that the very first entry used the same quote from an unknown author.  I am sorry Jodiemarie!  I suppose it is inevitable...it's such a nice quote.  I blogged more about my project here:  http://duringquiettime.blogspot.com/2010/02/true-love-contest.html
I used heavy duty interfacing for both my envelope and my card to make them a little more crisp.  Otherwise, I followed the tutorial and enjoyed it. I do plan to make more for other holidays.

Wow!  You are amazing!  I can't believe you stitched 100 hearts--you go girl!
