New to Bellevue WA

    New to Bellevue WA
    on: January 27, 2010, 12:34:35 PM
Just settling down but ready to get back into the swing of things. Are there any other crafty mama's in the area wanting to get together during the week? I am just getting into hand quilting, but mostly I like to make children's clothing and little things for the house. I am definitely open to new things.

Yea for Bellevue! After two years in New England, we're moving "home" this summer. I'll definitely come back by the forum then and look you up. *grin* I'll be in Bellevue, near the Issaquah border.

I am up in Bothell and new to sewing but would love to join a sewing group.  I have an almost 2-year-old and at this point I mostly sew for him.

Aunt LoLo: I feel you. I just moved "home" after three years in Houston. Look forward to hearing from you. Good luck with your move!

KKay: I have a 2 y/o who is looking for some new friends! Do you stay home? We are looking for some kind of playgroup in the area or thinking about starting one up. How close to Bellevue are you? We are moving (next Monday) to a house right near the Factoria.

Also I'd love your input on clothes for boys. I have a 6 week old and am itching to start putting him in some mama made clothes but have no idea where to start.

            Emily,
I do stay home Smiley.  I have also been looking for a new playgroup (I was in one with 3 other moms but one loved to lake stevens, one went back to work and one moves to Portland next month Sad).

I wish I could give more help on boys clothes but I have mostly done alteration (a little applique and needle felting) not construction.  I have made him hooded towels and bean bags/tote bags and blankets more than clothes.

We live about 15/20 minutes up 405 from Bellevue but it isn't bad during the day.  My husband works in downtown bellevue and we drive into there about once a week.  (We drive all over for different activities).

Will you be staying home? Did you make clothes for your 2-year-old?

              Kristen,

I will be staying home. I am looking for things to do for kiddos around town. Maybe you can give me the inside scoop. I am not quite ready to go to really populated places just yet because of the newborn. Probably in another 6 weeks or so we will be getting out more. I am not the type to sit home all the time.

I do make things for Bella (the 2y/o) Mostly dresses, pants and toys. I have LOADS of little girl patterns to trade/give away but no boy patterns. =(

Next week is going to be a little crazy for us. We will be unpacking/moving-in Monday but maybe the following week we could try to meet up for coffee or something.

@ Emily - Yea! We'll be about 10 minutes from you, on Cougar Mountain. *grin*

Fun things to do with kids in the area: there's a Children's Museum in Factoria Mall that has a free day once a week (Tuesday nights?). Also, during the summer, there is "story time" every Friday in one of the empty plazas at Factoria Mall. My daughter used to love it! Also, the playspace at Bellevue Square Mall (on the top floor, now) is pretty fun, and TOTALLY PADDED. Awesome for beginning walkers. It's also big enough where you can usually find a quiet corner to sit with the baby.

The aquarium, in Seattle, is also really fun...and indoors, which is great for a rainy day.

                  Emily,

I hope your move is going well...those are never fun.  We would love to grab coffee sometime next week.  Aunt LoLo is right, the play place at Bell Square is awesome; it feels bigger and more secure than the ones at the other malls.  There are also lots of fun coffee shops in the area that have toys for kids (train tables , play kitchens...).  I don't know of any specific ones that direction, but the Village Bean in Bothell is nice (I have heard there is a Tully's in Bellevue with good toys.

Thanks Kristen! I am looking forward to unpacking my machine and fabric now. We could do coffee in Bothel. I love that they have toys! What time is good for you? We have been taking late naps so 9am-10am works for me.   Monday-wednesday is free. Let me know.

                          Kristen,

Wednesday at 9am works sounds great. The coffee shop looks cute and I love the idea of putting toys out for kids. Oh how I have longed for a relaxing "for here" cup of cappuccino.
