Serger Suggestions?

    Serger Suggestions?
    on: August 29, 2008, 06:38:28 PM
I want to take the Serger plunge.

I've only got about $250 to spend.

Is that enough?  Or will I be frustrated by a serger at that level?

And if it is enough... which one!?

I have a Brother 1034 D and it is a great machine.  I think it is worth the investment.

Funny, I was just going to ask the same question. Checking out the brother now. Thank you!

I see that this thread has been quiet for a while, but I'm also interested in how to choose a Serger.  I sew a lot and have never gotten around to buying one.  My worry is that I'll get one that I outgrow too quickly.  I sew on a Janome Memory Craft 6500 and love it, so would be tempted to go with a Janome Serge.  I don't know how good they are though.  Any tips?

I have a Brother 1034 D on its way to me for Christmas (at least it better be on the way...hopefully, hubby didn't delete the email with the link I sent).

It had great reviews and was priced at just over $200 on Amazon.

Last Christmas I got a Brother 1034D serger. It is just over $200 and free shipping at Amazon. I have had no problems with it so. It is a little loud, but it is a great machine. I would highly recommend it if you are on a budget.

Hi, I purchased a husqvarna, viking, huskylock from a local gal who advertised it on craigslist. I paid about $150. Today was my first day making a garment with it. I made a child's (size 7) peasant dress. I used regular 4 thread serge stitch and also the rolled hem and I really, really love this machine!
