Toronto, Ontario

    Toronto, Ontario
    on: January 27, 2010, 02:54:54 PM
    Hey everybody!

I'm in Toronto, Ontario and I'm really interested in starting a sewing circle where people could feel free to bring along whatever they're working on (quilting, garments, embroidery, small object, etc). Is there anyone else who'd be interested in getting together?

I'm also in Toronto and I would definitely be interested in a sewing circle, hopefully somewhere downtown to midtown, or at least on a subway line.

Is that you Tong? It's Kaye (from the Miss Print blog), I actually started this thread!

I'm in the Annex. I don't have a ton of room, but could probably host the sewing circle if it's a only a few people.

Hey Kaye! I completely didn't notice that you posted the original message!

I'm at Yonge & St. Clair and I do have the space to accommodate quite a few people, so I'm willing to take turns hosting once we get this sewing group going. Here's hoping that we'll find a few more people!

Hi! I'm in Toronto as well and have only lived here a year and a half, so I know no other crafters. I would love to participate in a sewing circle if it is reachable by public transit.

I'm near Ave Rd and Lawrence...not on the subway but about 20 minute walk from Lawrence or York Mills.

Would love to participate.  I am a quilter, home dec sewer, pant-hemmer, knitter, embroiderer, and needlepointer.

Would love to join y'all...my place is a little small to host though.

A small group is starting up a Modern Quilt Guild in Toronto. If anyone is interested the group is on Ning:

I would love to be part of a sewing circle, but I don't live near enough to the city.  Sad

                  Hey everybody!

Thanks for posting that link to the TO Modern Quilt Guild. I've been drooling over the guilds that have been popping up in the states, and this looks just so great (especially since Kit started it)!

Okay, so what does everyone think our next step should be? And, would we like to meet in a public place for the first meeting?

We should meet and introduce ourselves, talk about how we want to do this, how often we want to meet and where.  And I think it's a good idea to meet at a public place the first time, maybe a coffee shop, or a fabric/craft store?

Meeting in a public place is probably a good idea, but as I am not that familiar with downtown Toronto, I will leave the place up to someone else.

I am free most days except Wednesdays and Thursdays. Sunday afternoons aren't great for me, but I could make it works for this first time.

I live up at Bathurst and Eglinton and I will be willing to host at my place occasionally, but not currently since we are in a state of major reorganization.

Well, let's see...definitely I think meeting at a coffee shop for the first meeting would be great! Maybe we should pick one that's close to a junction subway stop like Yonge and Bloor, or St. George and Bloor. Anybody have any ideas for a coffee shop where we could meet and have a chance of getting space for all of us?

Since I'm grad student my schedule can be a bit wonky, but I'm free Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays before 4, and Fridays and in a few weeks I'll also be free on Wednesdays also.

                        BTW, Happy Birthday Tong!

                          Hi everybody!

Please count me in. I would love to meet with other sewing lovers to share and learn.

I am also a knitter and handspinner, but I've discovered sewing is my new passion and got a sewing machine a few months ago after taking a course at the Sewing Studio.

I love making small projects, like bags, purses, pouches and other accessories.

I live in the Yonge and Sheppard area, but work downtown.

Meeting to introduce ourselves and talk about how to coordinate interests and activities sounds fantastic.

                          Have a great crafty weekend!

I'm in Toronto East end, been sewing for a few months mostly quilts. I am definitely interested in this. Is this separate from the link to the modern guild?

Yes, this is a separate group from the Toronto Modern Quilt guild.

One possibility is the upstairs "loft" area in the Loblaws at St. Clair and Bathurst.  It's loosely associated with the coffee shop there, but it's a huge space with lots of tables.

It's right at the St. Clair West subway, and is a short streetcar ride from St. Clair station.  Someone may know of a similar space in a more central location.

(I was hoping we might be able to use a meeting room at a public library, but they all seem to charge a (nominal) hourly fee for booking.)
