You might also check out Sew Mama, Sew's book recommendations here: http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/20972.Favorite_Sewing_Books

It's a great list of sewing books!

I really like One Yard Wonders and Pillows and Throws http://www.amazon.ca/Cushions-Pillows-Throws-Lucinda-Ganderton/dp/1841724750/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264693386&sr=1-1.  Both books have great photography and inspire me.

Definitely take a look at Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing.  I also enjoy Jane Brocket's The Gentle Art of Domesticity.  Both are wonderful books with lovely suggestions and pictures.

I got One Yard Wonders, and there are some great fun projects in there.  I also recommend Bend The Rules Sewing if you don't have it...it's a wonderful book!

I'm loving Amanda Soule's Handmade Home, and on *my* Amazon wish list is Malka Dubrawsky's Color Your Cloth. As soon as the weather gets warmer (well, that will be a few months up here in Vermont...) I'm hoping to try out some of her fabric-dyeing techniques.

Thank you so much for this question.  I am wondering myself what sewing/quilting books to buy recently.  I think I am definitely going to get the One Yard Wonders and Bend the Rules Sewing as it was listed on the list of the decade of what designers out there are top.  Thanks again. Anna Maria Horner Seams To Me
                Heather Ross Weekend Sewing
and Amy Butlers Little Stitches for Little Ones

OK that's three but I couldn't separate them.

The first is my fave. It has a great section at the front detailing how to get started, sewing tips etc. that I find really useful. The instructions are easy to follow, separate pattern section (and only one pattern per sheet), and it looks great.

Heather Ross' is a book you can dip into for ideas and I like how there are cooking recipes as well!

I'm currently re-doing my nursery and have loads of good ideas from the Amy Butler.

I just have one off of the top of my head,
Simple Sewing with a French Twist: by Celine Dupuy is one of my favorites!

There's a fabric cart that I want to tote around, but my friend insisted that I would look like an old New Yorker lady...which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Amy Karol's Bend the Rules Sewing
                    and
Anna Maria Horner's book Seams to Me

both available from Amazon.  I can look at them for hours, and they are so inspirational.  Also, based on the handful of projects I've done from them so far, the instructions are clear and accurate and easy to follow.
