Best Outdoor Fabric?

    Best Outdoor Fabric?

    Hello All!

I "rescued" a lovely old chair from a neighbour's garbage pile today - beautiful wood in need of paint, but a falling apart rope seat. Off went the rope, and I would love to just stretch some cotton over the rungs for a seat - BUT - it will be a backyard chair and things can be wet up here. I promise to bring the chair in for the winter, but I will not rescue it every time it rains. So what do you think - oilcloth? Is there such a thing as  "outdoor" cotton? I don't want to use anything that will make my bum (or the bums of others) sticky when I stand up on a humid day. Will oilcloth make my skirt stick to my bum?  Should I just do a home-dec weight cotton and replace when it starts to rot?Are there cool canvas prints out there? Where are they?  Hm.

There's a whole fabric line dedicated to outdoor fabric called Sunbrella which has a 5 year warranty and claims to be stain, fade and weather-proof.   I found some here:  https://www.fabricdepot.com/index.php?page=CatalogPage&pageid=15302.  Although, I'm sure if you do an internet search, you can probably find more.
I've never sewn anything for outdoors, but I would lean towards the thicker, canvas-y, home decor weight fabrics and NOT use oilcloth or laminated cotton for a seat.

I would like to add my endorsement of Sunbrella fabrics!
I replaced the fabric of two outdoor sling chairs years ago and the fabric still looks as good as new!!
Now...if only they had some prints that resemble Cath Kidston's....
