New to sewing my first projects...
    on: May 07, 2008, 06:45:39 PM
    Hello all,

I am new to sewing very new, I've only really picked it up in the last month and what can I say...I'm hooked! I remember my grandmother teaching me on an old pink Singer back when I was teenager but that was pretty much my limited experience. Sew,Mama,Sew has truly been an inspiration for me and a great learning aid!

My goal is to sew all my own clothing from now on and not give in to the peer pressure of commercialism. So little by little I am learning as I go.

Here are my first completed projects. I hope you all enjoy taking a look!

    My first skirt-

My first tunic (red) and then a Mothers Day tunic for my mother(blue.)

    A circle skirt-

That's it so far for clothing!

I've also taken to making cloth pads as well. Smiley Just trying to do my part in protecting the environment.

Well thank you for taking a look! I hope to post pics of many more completed projects soon! Currently I am working on quilted square reusable grocery bags. So much fun!

Your tunics are lovely!  Your pads look very nice too, and comfy!

I particularly like the red tunic.

And I am getting more and more interested in the cloth pads, too.

Great work!  I'm also a beginner, and would love to have a wardrobe made entirely of only used or handmade clothes.  Yay!  I'm a super-beginner though and have not felt comfortable enough to tackle clothing.  I'm thinking my first attempts are going to be Simplicity 3835, the Built by Wendy elasticized top and the Wrap Skirt from the tutorial on the SMS blog.

Love your pads!  I've also been making my own.  My favorite pattern is the pantyliner found at Adahy's Cloth Pad Patterns.  She has an interesting Circle Pad pattern available that many may find useful also.

Great job!!!  And I have to say how wonderful it is you jumped right in and did so many wonderful things...  I have been sewing for years now and each day I learn something new... it is great fun don't you think?
