What kind of thread for piecing quilt?

What kind of thread for piecing quilt?
    on: February 17, 2010, 11:09:32 AM
Newbie question here: do I need to use a particular kind of thread for piecing my quilt top? I just ran out of the gray 100% cotton thread I was using before, and I'm wondering if I can safely switch to the all-purpose off-white thread I have in abundance.

    Thanks!

yes, you can switch. While you want to make sure you have good quality thread, the piecing thread is not nearly as important as the quilting thread later on. In the piecing process, no threads will actually show up on the top, so even the color is not important...tho I wouldn't use black thread to piece together while or other light colors since the black could show up as a "shadow" through the light color fabrics. Gray's, beiges or taupes are good colors to have for piecing - light gray or beige for the light fabrics and dark gray or taupe for the darker fabrics..and again, mixing is not a problem at the piecing stage.

      Good luck.
