Out of the box lessons for Bernina

Out of the box lessons for Bernina
    on: March 15, 2010, 08:24:21 AM
I just purchased a Bernina Activa 230 and have my out of the box lesson this week.  I want to make sure I know what the lesson should include so that I know to press the dealer/ instructor for all info.  Not that I don't trust this dealer, but she tends to be a bit short and harsh.  So just want to know if any of you have had an out of the box class.  Should I expect to receive any books on the machine?  That sort of thing.  Thanks!

I just finished my Activa 230 classes.  We didn't get any additional materials, just scraps of fabric to test out different stitches.  The small spiral bound quick start guide has all of the info you will need.  The nice thing is that you have a popular machine so if you have questions, there are a lot of people on here that can help you.   Bernina's website also has a lot of good info on it.

Some things they should show you:
How to thread it, wind a bobbin, insert a bobbin and pull up the thread
How to take the machine apart and oil the hook race and reassemble it
How to pop off the feed dog cover and clean it out
How to use each specialty foot, like the blind hem foot, walking foot and darning foot
How to adjust stitch length and width, select stitches on the screen as well as using # to select a higher number stitch
      How to program the memory

I hope that helps! Have fun, it can sew through anything!
