How to write up your own pattern to sell & distribute

Hi everyone - I've been checking out Sew Mama Sew for a long time but some how have never been on the forums.

I'm wondering if any of you out there could share (or would know)...how to write up your own patterns to have printed - to then sell.

I have seen a ton on Etsy - and a whole slew of them in fabric shops - but I only seem to know of the distributors - not the manufacturers.  Undecided

So if you write up your own patterns - do you offer the large tissue style printed paper with the instructions? or pattern ease? or just the PDF?

I have a few patterns I'd like to write up & sell, and then to be distributed (like my turtles http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=31816499) but I'm not sure how to go about doing it.

Thanks for any advice...Kerry Cheesy

I know of a couple people who have designed patterns for sale. Most of them simply have a printer, like Kinkos print up their patterns in bulk. Then they fold and package them for sale.
PDF patterns have become popular, but if the buyer has to tape a bunch of pages together then I would not recommend selling in pdf. Your turtle pattern would be a great pattern to sell in pdf format. You can easily add the pattern to your etsy store and have the option for people to purchase or sell their own.
If you are to have them printed, I think the regular paper will be fine since most sewers trace their patterns anyway.
    I hope that helps some.
    Good luck!
