Affordable quilting machine recommendation??

    Affordable quilting machine recommendation??
    on: April 21, 2010, 04:27:26 PM
Can anyone recommend a home quilting machine for under $500?

I spotted the Singer Confidence @ Jo-ann's the other day & was interested since I wouldnt be spending a fortune but I saw its had a lot of bad reviews on Amazon.

Im not a hard core quilter but I would do more if it was easier to quilt queen size quilts.

I have the same question! Did you find a machine? If yes what did you get.

As a seamstress, I would not recommend buying a Singer. Only because they don't make replacement parts anymore. If you want a good machine try buying a Janome. Go on E-Bay and getting one. But be sure NOT to buy a REFURBISHED one. Make sure its brand new.  I bought one 2 years ago from there and love it. Paid $350.00 total.  Now though I'm ready to upgrade and would like to sell it. It's not computerized. But runs perfect. I'd sell it for $250.00 and you pay shipping if your interested.

For quilting you'll want something that doesn't get jammed up with heavy bulky fabrics. I've used this Brother for quilting before (my sister owns one) and it's a nice machine for the price:

If you can afford it, this Janome has been one of my favorite all-around machines and stitches as nicely as some of the commercial machines I've used:

If you buy from a store they will sometimes teach you how to use the machine, but if you buy online (at least through Amazon) they're going to be much more friendly about returns. As for the machine itself, there are a lot of great quilting machines out there - these are just two of my favorites for under $500. Hope this helps! Smiley
