Any clothing book recommendations?

    Any clothing book recommendations?
    on: May 21, 2010, 08:23:25 PM
    Hi,
I'm looking for good clothing books, preferably with pull-out patterns but enlargeable ones are okay too, for any age or gender.  Any that you particularly like?

For kids, I really like Sewing clothes Kids Loveby Nancy Langsdon.  This included 10 full-sized patterns for sizes 12mo-12 in versatile, stylish designs.  She is very creative with fabrics and trims and provides helpful tips and beautiful pictures.  This is my new favorite and I'm trying to sew through the book this year.

Others I own and like are Anna Maria Horner's Seams to Me and Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing. Seams to Me has some cute accessories and bags and kids patterns.  Weekend Sewing has some great ladies outfits.  Happy sewing!

I am also looking for good clothing book recommendations. Preferably one with a pattern or easy step-by-step process on how to make pants. I'm trying to learn how to make a dressy pair of work pants for myself.
I look forward to reading more replies for books to check out.

I got Heather Ross's Weekend Sewing from the library and it's awesome.  Thanks for the recommendation. Smiley

I recently bought and am using two books: Pants for Real People and Fit for Real People, both by Pati Palmer and Marta Alto. To my delight, I have FINALLY learned how to alter patterns to fit my body (instead of the model on the pattern envelope). I highly, highly recommend these books to anyone who has had it with making garments out of yummy fabric only to have them fit so terribly you won't wear them. BTW, I am 58-years-old and embarrassed that it took me this long!

They aren't really books, but I am really loving Ottobre magazine (the woman's clothing issues come out twice a year).  They always have great styles that suit a wide range of body shapes and ages.  All the patterns are included full-size, but you do have to trace them and add seam allowances.  The instructions are also a little sparse, so probably not the best for a beginner, but if you have some clothing sewing experience you can probably handle it.  I have also heard wonderful things about the kids clothing magazines, but have not tried these myself.  http://www.ottobredesign.com/
