How do you serge to a piont

How do you serge to a piont

I would like to make some 36" x 1/2" ribbons on my new serger. I need them to come to a point at each end and I don't care about the the thread chain at the ends. I'm not sure if I should cut the silk fabric to a point or if I should leave it straight and try to guide the ends of the fabric to a point. I have tried both ways with spotty luck but I'm wondering if anyone has a better idea. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
