JavaJane! That looks great on you. Nice choice of fabric for the pattern and it looks like it fits you perfectly!

Thank you, random-charm. Once upon a time, I made many of my own clothes.  After years of only sewing costumes and pajama pants, I am finding my confidence in garment making again. I should note, however, that I think I spent more time staring at the pattern pieces and instructions than actually sewing the dress.

Side note for those who have in similar straights, i.e. those who have not made garments for years or not at all:  I have been making some of the simple Sew Mama Sew projects for a couple of years now. They have helped build my confidence with regard to zipper installation or just pushing the envelope to try something new. Carve out some time and just go for it!

          JavaJane,

Thanks for your comments. I find myself in a similar place. I made a lot of my own clothes in college and early marriage years. Then I started making clothes for the kids and rarely made anything for me. I have found that I am much more comfortable at just cutting into the fabric. But definitely rusty at making clothes for me. I'm hoping that when DD goes to K in the fall I'll have my quiet afternoons to get back into it.

Cindy--It took me long past my son entering Kindergarten to return to sewing.  He is going to be a first year college student in the fall!  But I did teach him to sew.  He made a fleece pullover and a bow tie.

Maybe that would be another good theme for SMS:  teach your children to sew!

JavaJane, I can't wait that long! My hands will strangle my own neck rather than go without a project under the fingers. Knitting is more portable lately. My 7yo son is already learning a little handsewing and even how to use the machine. I think we'll do some more over the summer holidays. He enjoys making stuff just like I do.

I am determined to make myself a few skorts in the next few weeks though, I am down to one decent pair of shorts and even in Maine that is not enough!

I made this skirt out of woolen blanket remnants. I lined it with a vintage sheet and added some lace I crocheted to the hem. I also crocheted the vest. I have no idea how to insert the photo. I'll try to pop it on the flickr. In the meantime check it out on my blog here http://foxslane.blogspot.com/

[Note: I posted this in the Look What I Made thread, but realize that I should have posted it in the Make It, Wear It! Challenge thread, so I apologize for the duplication!]

My little granddaughter was christened last Sunday and here's a pic of the gown her doting Grandma made for her.  This gown was made from her Mommy's wedding dress.  The back bodice of the wedding dress was used for the front bodice of the christening gown.  The bonnet came from the wedding dress front bodice.  The wedding gown featured Swarovski crystals, seed beads, bugle beads, and embroidery which I incorporated into the christening gown and bonnet.  You can't see her little slippers, but they're also made from the dress and on the soles I machine embroidered her name and date of her christening. Other than the silk ribbons I didn't have to purchase any fabric for this gown.

A skirt I whipped up for my girl. I cut strips and used my ruffling foot to gather them up. So easy!

It's great!  Isn't the ruffler the best thing ever?  It is worth every penny I paid for it as I use mine alot.  Smiley

A skirt.  Nothing fancy, but one that fits now, should fit post-pregnancy, and with fingers crossed will even fit for the next six weeks!  Sewn without a pattern, from a thrifted nightgown.
