Ooooo. I want to win the Ottobre magazine subscription! I am in the process of making my Patty Young yoga skirt. Should be done tonight! So quick and so cute!

      Very nice!

When I saw this Alexander Henry "Camelia" fabric here on SMX, I fell in love with this fabric instantly. However, finding the right project for it proved tricky because of the large scale of the print. What you see here is the product of many design revisions, but I couldn’t be happier with the final result. It’s light and comfortable and fits like a dream.

Well I got around to making something this past week. I made a skirt form Indygo Juction, It's a wrap IJ769. I did add a rosette to give it a little detail. http://thumbelena.blogspot.com/

Adding my submission!  This is the second dress I've made myself.  I'm on a roll after investing in a serger!  I used the Mendocino Sundress pattern from Heather Ross.  I wasn't sure if I'd printed the pattern out correctly - it looked huge.  When I cut it out it still looked huge.  So I trimmed it down (and ended up removing the pockets in the process) before doing the elastic thread.  The top is a bit small as a result, but I like the size of the skirt.  I added some muslin to the bust since the elastic thread was a bit itchy and I prefer to go braless.  The best part I was able to finish most of the dress during my son's three hour nap!

Today I was sewing up a dress in the hope to submit it for the challenge when I majorly messed it up at the end right before doing the hem. I was trimming a seam when snip, snip, snip, the fabric of the front got caught in the scissors and now I have a huge hole in the front. I found a rescue solution but there's no way I can do it before the end of the month because of this thing called work.

Let me share the picture of the disaster with you if it's ok.

What a bummer Aberdonian!  Have you tried to fix it?  Maybe use it to air out your armpits?  Smiley
Great dress otherwise.  Love how nicely the fabric works.

I haven't tried to fix it yet but I have a plan. I'm going to fix the hole, one way or another and then I'm going to add a band of white cotton I have on each side and call it a design feature. That will have to wait Thursday or Friday though as I don't work those afternoons.

I wanted to make a simple, quick, comfortable summer skirt, and this was the result. I used McCall's 5524 and an Amy Butler print.

I'm so excited... so many firsts..

                        First.. my first blouse.
I'm a newbie.. I just got my sewing machine earlier this month. Before I got the machine, I got a Cotton Friend magazine (yes, it's Japanese.. and no, I'm not Japanese  Wink )
In it, there was a pattern for a simple cowl neck blouse. I knew I had to try and make it.

So I got my hands on a stretchy knit material. And I tried to figure out the needle I needed.. and made it Smiley
                        Phew.
                        It Fits!

                        I'm a happy camper Smiley

Oh.. what's the other 'First' ? This is the First time I'm participating in ANY sewing challenge!

A bit more on my 'New' blog

I've managed to finish two more garments for myself before the month's end here.  First, a linen/rayon skirt with curved godets(BWOF 02-2007-113):

and then a empire line blouse with flutter sleeves (Butterick 4985A):

I've written about both on my blog if you're interested http://emadethis.wordpress.com/2010/06/29/watercolor-splash-blouse/

http://Frog Button ! Oh i love them. Wish i could perfect them. This is my third attempt (earlier ones where done about a year ago!)

Simple Kurta with V- style Placket (Inspiration was Sonali Bendre in Pril Ad, though her placket was embellished, i opted to go with embellishment as i wanted to wear casually and not to be overwhelmed. But it looked TOO Plain hence decided to jazz it up a bit and added Frog buttons.

The following link was the one i followed, just google Chinese frog button and there are plenty of tutorials, choose the one you understand the most

This is a beach dress I made for my 3 yr. old granddaughter, Shelby. The fabric came from India, and is some kind of embroidered like chiffon. I made this pic on my little digital camera.
